Audimute's Peacemaker Soundproofing Underlayment is designed to be installed beneath a finished flooring to act as a shock absorber, significantly reducing the amount of vibration and impact noise capable of traveling through a structure.
Made from 90% post-consumer material, including recycled tire rubber, Peacemaker is an eco-friendlier alternative to Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) while still remaining durable, affordable, and effective.
Peacemaker is also available as Peacemaker Sound Barrier - 3 mm. The 3 mm thickness is not intended to perform in the same manner as our 6 mm Peacemaker. Our 6 mm Peacemaker is less dense, allowing it to absorb vibrations more effectively. Our 3 mm Peacemaker is denser than our 6 mm, meaning it will not absorb vibration in the same manner as our 6 mm, but will block airborne sound much more effectively. Testing of Peacemaker Soundproofing Underlayment - 6 mm over a 6" concrete slab with Click-Lock LVT flooring resulted in a STC Rating of 50 and an IIC Rating of 57.
As with most new rubber products, Peacemaker emits various organic compounds which have a characteristic smell. When Peacemaker is properly installed in your wall, floor, or ceiling, these odors will be undetected. If left exposed, in an area with little ventilation, Peacemaker will emit a harmless low-level odor which will lessen over time and poses no health risks. Please note: individuals with increased sensitivity to smell may find this odor unpleasant.
Peacemaker can be used outdoors. The same principles of soundproofing apply: increase mass and significantly reduce/eliminate air flow. In addition to mass and air flow, it is ideal to create a constrained-layer in which Audimute Peacemaker is sandwiched between two layers of harder, more dense materials. The sound energy dissipates in the middle layer because of its elasticity and the change in density.

Office Sound Barrier Between Floors
Review by Andrew on 4 Jun 2020review stating Office Sound Barrier Between Floors
At the early stages of our coworking buildout within a 3-story 150 year old structure where the goal was to maintain open ceilings/rafters, we quickly realized that sound dampening would be a huge need between levels. After coming up empty inquiring through our construction rolodex of best products to use, we hit the internet. Fortunately we came ...Read MoreRead more about At the early stages of our coworking
across AudiMute! Mallory has been super helpful to work with—offering tons of insight on the product solution match. While still a bit skeptical as to how well the product would actually function, we decided to pull the trigger and test the functionality on a smaller area within the upper level. Needless to say, we were incredibly impressed with the outcome! Our belief was so high that we placed our second order shortly thereafter to finish the entire top floor. Next up, sound proofing the main level to enjoy an exposed basement ceiling! Read LessRead less about At the early stages of our coworking
Q: Would laying this on top of the floor and under a large rug be useful in reducing noise transmission?

A: Hello Max, Thank you for your question on the Peacemaker 6MM Underlayment. This product is made from recycled rubber so it needs to be placed under the actual flooring for proper installation and just laying it over an existing floor without another flooring layer overtop will not work as intended. Even just a rug over it will not be considered the proper use. The proper installation instructions listed our our website for use in a retro fit flooring situation is as follows: For Carpet, Floating, and Nail Down Floors: Peacemaker should be installed above the existing subflooring and below the new finished floor. For Glue Down and Tile Floors: Install Peacemaker between the existing subflooring and new secondary subflooring. In general, we recommend collaborating with the Finished Floor Installer prior to purchase. Please let us know if you have any other questions! 1.866.505.MUTE

Q: Can this be used on an existing wall, to reduce HVAC vibrations? (High-rise condo building, with mechanical HVAC stack that generates a constant humming vibration )

A: Hello, The Peacemaker underlayment 6 MM is mean to go underneath flooring to help minimize and block out sound transfer between floor levels. We do have another thickness available in the 3MM size that is meant for walls and can go inside of wall structures to help block sound transfer that way as well. For best use options and recommendations, please give one of our Acoustic Specialists a call for additional information: 1.866.505.MUTE

Q: Hello, I will put it on the plywood subfloor with the floating floor on top to prevent sound from the apartment below.? What is the difference with IIC and STC and what is the equivalent for the 6.4mm?
Verified Buyer
12/19/22
A: IIC or Impact Insulation Class is an acoustical rating used to quantify absorption of impact sounds and the isolation of vibration. STC or Sound transmission class is used to quantify airborne sound isolation of a wall assembly. Peacemaker 3.2mm is our dense version, designed to maximum STC. Peacemaker 6.4mm is our soft version, designed to maximize IIC. If the goal of your project is to reduce vibration and impact noises, then Peacemaker 6.4mm is the right solution. If you are looking to block the transmission of airborne sounds through the structure, then Peacemaker 3.2mm would be the better solution. If both impact sounds and airborne sounds are present, using both solutions is a viable strategy.

Q: Hello, I'm thinking about using this product to build a floor on top of an existing wood floor in an apartment studio/rehearsal room. There will be drums involved, as well as a bass amp, and guitar amps. There are downstairs neighbors, so we'd like to treat the floor as much as possible. Would layering a sheet of the 6.4mm Peacemaker under, or over a sheet of the 3.2mm Peacemaker work? Especially with the drums, vibrations going directly through the floor are a big concern, but so are vibrations in the air.
Further, would doing this with two layers of each be twice as effective? Would the order of the layers matter if so? Thanks for your help!

A: Great question Matt! Acoustic drums with a neighbor immediately below can require very intense work to obtain the desired effect, so applying both materials, if not even additional layers of the 3.2mm Sound Barrier beyond that, would be recommended. The order of the layers should not make a significant difference acoustically, but the 3.2mm on top may give a more comfortable floor surface if using carpet.
Peacemaker should be installed above the existing subflooring and below the new finished floor.
For Glue Down and Tile Floors:
Install Peacemaker between the existing subflooring and new secondary subflooring.
